The Inn at Walker Mill is seeking a

Memory Care Program Director

for a new memory care unit.

Full Time/Varied Hours 

 

The primary focus of the Memory Care Program Director will be developing and implementing a robust, memory care program for a new, small population unit. In addition to program development, the Memory Care Program Director will be hands on in resident care and responsible for staff development and on going training. 

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and execute all scheduled activity programs.
  2. Review, understand and comply with policies procedures and recommend changes as necessary.
  3. Follow plan of care for activities to assure residents' needs are being met.
  4. Motivate residents to participate in both group and independent activities.
  5. Accept responsibility and accountability for all assigned job tasks.
  6. File complaints/grievances to Executive Director.
  7. Participate in surveys made by authorized government agencies.
  8. Complete all assigned duties.
  9. Provide reality orientation on a 1:1 basis.
  10. Lead group activities, both large and small.
  11. Attend outing to supervise residents and invite residents to attend outings.
  12. Work with student and adult volunteers.
  13. Assist residents with personal correspondence, opening mail, reading and writing letters.
  14. Perform personal shopping as assigned.
  15. Perform other job duties assigned by Executive Director.

Committee Functions:

  1. Organize and attend Resident Council, Planning Committee and Employee Committees as assigned by the Executive Director.
  2. Attend all department meetings as scheduled.

Staff Development:

  1. Participate in all scheduled in-service training sessions related to Memory Care.
  2. Attend continuing education sessions as directed by the Executive Director.
  3. Attend all hazardous communication and universal precaution training sessions as scheduled.

Safety and Sanitation Functions:

  1. Follow all safety regulations established.
  2. Maintain work areas in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner.
  3. Follow all departmental policies and procedures including appropriate dress code.
  4. Participate in all fire safety and disaster drills.
  5. Follow established infection control and universal precaution policies and procedures.
  6. Report any exposure to blood/bodily fluids or any incident which results in harm to self or others regardless of severity.
  7. Report any hazardous equipment or conditions to the appropriate personnel.
  8. Ensure safety of residents when under your supervision.

Equipment and Supplies:

  1. Operate all department equipment in a safe manner and report any problems when they arise.
  2. Utilize supplies without waste.

 

Budget:

  1. Order supplies as needed and within budget guidelines.

Resident Rights:

  1. Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information.
  2. Understand and abide by all Resident Rights.
  3. Assist with all scheduled voting programs.

Program Planning:

  1. Advertise programs to the appropriate parties.
  2. Select movies, games and discussion topics as scheduled.
  3. Encourage residents to participate in hobbies and crafts, and in independent activities.
  4. Conduct room visits as scheduled to provide reality orientation, sensory stimulation, music, friendly visits and any other modality identified in the care plan.
  5. Assist with staff parties and special events.
  6. Assist with religious programs as scheduled.
  7. Transport residents to and from activity areas.

Miscellaneous:

  1. Act as Transportation Director for outings, doctor appointments, facility and corporate business when necessary.
  2. Accept assigned duties in a cooperative manner.
  3. Follow proper chain of command.
  4. Assist with decorating the facility for the holidays, seasons, and special events.
  5. Maintain birthday, religious, veterans, and voting lists as necessary.
  6. Plan and post materials on monthly bulletin boards for each unit.
  7. Obtain resident's signatures on quarterly reports and monthly bills as requested.
  8. Complete simple sewing tasks i.e., mending.

 

 

Working Conditions:

  1. Works in office areas and throughout the facility and outdoors.
  2. Sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves about intermittently.
  3. Subject to frequent interruptions.
  4. Interacts with residents, personnel, visitors, governmental agencies/personnel, etc., under all working conditions.
  5. May interact with hostile and emotional residents, family members, etc.
  6. Communicates with the nursing staff and other departments.
  7. Works beyond normal working hours, on weekends, and in other positions as necessary.
  8. Attends and participates in continuing educational programs.
  9. Is subject to falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the day.
  10. May be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc. - including the AIDS & Hepatitis B viruses.

Education:

  1. Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  2. Preferred to have a basic RAC training class.
  3. Preferred to have CDP certification or willing to obtain certification.

Experience:

  1. At least 2 years of memory care related experience preferred.

Specific Requirements:

  1. Must be fluent in English.
  2. Must be able to make independent decisions when circumstances require.
  3. Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with others.
  4. Must possess a willingness to work harmoniously with others.
  5. Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, and willingness to communicate with residents at the level where they currently function.
  6. Must be able to relate information concerning a resident's condition.
  7. Must possess a valid driver's license.

Physical and Sensory Requirements:

  1. Must be able to move about intermittently throughout the facility.
  2. Must be able to write legibly.
  3. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  4. Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
  5. Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
  6. Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
  7. Must be able to communicate with ill, disabled, elderly, emotional and at times, hostile people within the facility
  8. Must be able to lift, push, pull and move a maximum of fifty (50) pounds.
  9. Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents.
